Each figure is the value the institution reports for its own endowment, taken from its most recent financial or endowment report, with fiscal-year ends differing by institution. Coverage currently spans US institutions above $8 billion, sourced from NACUBO and primary filings. Two large university systems sit outside the single-institution ranking: the University of Texas System (UTIMCO), about $67.9 billion, and the University of California Regents pools, about $29.4 billion. Figures are approximate and should be independently verified. Inception reflects the founding or chartering year each institution’s own official materials currently cite; a few institutions date their own founding differently across their historical record, notably Duke University (1924 per its own facts page, though its predecessor, Trinity College, traces to 1838), Rice University (chartered 1891, but 1912, when it opened to students, is the year Rice treats as its founding for institutional anniversary purposes), and the University of Pennsylvania (1740 per current official usage, after historically citing 1749).
